Personality: To sum him up in as few words as possible? Insufferable asshole. His moral compass doesn't exactly point north. He's coolly detached, cynical, and secretive. He's mistrustful of others, maintaining a careful distance from everyone else even if he gives the impression of openness. He has no qualms whatsoever about using anyone to achieve his own ends. You could be the most innocent, kind-hearted person in the world, and he still wouldn't feel any qualms about exploiting you if he felt it would benefit him in some way.

He holds an inexhaustible reserve of ambition, and he will go about realizing this ambition with every ounce of cunning he possesses. He's also opportunistic, using any chance he can to manipulate a situation to his liking. He adapts to the situations he finds himself in, choosing to act in the way that will benefit him the most. Depending upon the moment, he can be undeniably charming, coolly disdainful, or subtly intimidating, to name only a scant few of the numerous demeanors he will adopt in any given situation. Ambitious, opportunistic, and self-serving, Anthony is far from the most endearing individual. If he’s learned anything in life, it’s that you have to look out for yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you. Pessimistic? More than a little. But it’s worked for him thus far, so he doesn’t see any reason to change his ways.

To be completely honest, sometimes he simply enjoys irritating people, even if he has no intention of gaining anything from them. It’s amusing to get underneath someone’s skin and figure out what makes them tick, because then he knows exactly what to do to push their buttons and keep himself entertained.

Surprisingly, he can actually be rather humorous, if you appreciate sarcastic, oftentimes cutting humor. He's not opposed to forming casual acquaintances with others, but don't expect anything resembling close friendship from him. He has no problem with light social interaction, but he's not the most loyal man, so don't place any amount of trust in him unless you want to be disappointed.

Despite the control he's learn to keep on his emotions, he doesn't have complete control and he can honestly end up being an immature jerk. If he's in a bad mood, he sometimes picks at others and irritates them just to alleviate his own ill mood. He's stubborn and he hates admitting when he's wrong, so he will sometimes argue until he's blue in the face even if he knows he's mistaken about something.

Surprisingly, he has his moments where he's charming and civil without ulterior motives, though these are few and far between. He's never going to be 'the nice guy' or anything even feasibly close to that, but there's no denying that he knows how to win a person over with a smile and a few words if he cares to do so. In fact, to the people who can't see past his carefully maintained façade, he's the most polite, charming young man you could ever hope to meet. He's honestly a bit puzzling, because despite his manipulative nature, he does possess very good manners and has the potential to be a perfect gentleman if he chooses to do so. Of course, he usually only chooses to act that way when it will benefit him or to maintain appearances, but the charm is there nonetheless. While he certainly wouldn’t care to admit it, maintaining his distance from others is a defense mechanism. If he couldn’t count on his own parents, then who can he count on? He doesn’t care to put himself at risk while trying to find out.

History: Anthony Ingram entered the world shortly after two a.m. on April 25, 1984 in Charleston, South Carolina. The first child born to Terrence and Ann Ingram, Anthony was not born into the most ideal of families. The family was lower middle class at best, with Terrence working a different job every few months and Ann putting in long hours as a secretary. Anthony was often left to his own devices as a child, which suited him just fine. After all, the other option was being around his father, and Terrence Ingram was not a paternal man. From as early as Anthony's fifth birthday, the boy found himself to be subjected to his father's bad moods. Terrence never resorted to physically taking his anger out on Anthony, but it was still more than enough to make Anthony hate his father before he could even fully comprehend what dislike was.

Anthony became a big brother in 1988 when his sister, Violet, was born. He was already a distant, reserved child, even at that young age, so it surprised everyone when he actually took to being a sibling very well. He was protective of his little sister, always trailing after her and keeping a watchful eye on her. Even from such a young age, he was willing to stand up against anyone who would even think about hurting her. In fact, Violet was the only redeemable part of his family life, as far as he was concerned.

When he started school, Anthony was determined to keep anyone from knowing what his home life was like. School was a different environment, an environment where he could paint whatever picture of his life that he wanted to, and he was quick to take advantage of that. As far as his classmates knew, Anthony couldn't be happier or more privileged. Before he even reached high school, Anthony had learned how to utilize his natural charm to win over his classmates and endear himself to his teachers and others around him. Intelligent, charming, well-mannered, and ambitious, Anthony was viewed as a very promising young man.

It was also during his school years that Anthony discovered a skill for manipulation. With a little practice, he learned how to read most people well enough to know exactly what to say to get what he wanted from them, which only encouraged his already secretive and rather deceptive nature. If he could lead other to believe what he wanted, then why shouldn't he use that to his advantage?

Over the years, his relationship with his parents deteriorated. As he got older, his fights with his father got worse as he became increasingly willing to argue right back rather than just avoiding Terrence. Shortly after his eighteenth birthday and his graduation from high school, one particular fight proved to be the breaking point for Anthony. He took what little money was in his college fund and left the house, intent on getting out for good even though he hated the thought of leaving Violet behind in that house. Of course, it would have been wise to have some sort of plan, but that had escaped his notice in his anger and hurry to get far away from his family.

Luckily, his uncle on his mother's side of the family had expressed an interest in the boy's future before and was more than happy to take in his nephew. So, Anthony found himself relocating to Seattle, Washington, where he enrolled in college after settling into his life there. His uncle owned a successful construction company in the area, so it was easy for Anthony to secure a position there after completing college. Of course, once he landed that job, he certainly wasn’t any more likely to give up his less-than-honest ways. Now that he was actually financially well off, with an apartment of his own and a stable job, he had even more freedom to get exactly what he wanted. Since moving to Seattle, he’s formed few friendships or substantial relationships, preferring to spend his free time in the company of casual acquaintances or whatever woman happens to catch his eye at the moment.

Example first person entry of this particular character: If only I could look back on my little night of sleeplessness and say that I was incredibly productive. Alas, I'm not able to do that.
